Meet Dr. Denise Lyons

Preventative Care — Dr Denise R. Lyons In Central Square, NY
Denise Robin Lyons was born in Oswego, NY, and raised in Hannibal, NY. It has been interesting to discover that many patients know her father, Dennis, from his workdays at both the Alcan plant in Oswego or the former Miller Brewery in Fulton. She comes from a hard-working family and credits her parents for her work ethic and determination. After high school, Denise went on to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene and completed a double major in Biological Sciences and Psychology from The University at Buffalo. 
The University of Michigan School of Dentistry was home for Denise, and where she completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2004. She was inducted into the National Dental Honor Society (Omicron Kappa Upsilon), which is an honor bestowed only to the top 10% of all graduating dental classes. She has received many awards, including the Periodontal Prevention Proficiency Award, the American Academy of Oral Medicine Award for achievement, proficiency, and promise in the field of Oral Medicine, as well as the Louis C. Schultz Award in Operative Rehabilitation for outstanding achievement in clinical service.
Dr. Denise Lyons entered the United States Air Force as First Lieutenant in 2002 and became an enlisted active duty Captain in 2004. She was selected into the competitive and highly desired Advanced Education in Graduate Dentistry Residency, which allowed Dr. Lyons to continue her dental training with some of the top specialists in each area of dentistry. Dr. Lyons completed her active duty dental mission in 2007 and entered the Inactive Ready Reserve component of the USAF.
Working in several offices before taking over for Dr. Penoyer in Nov 2009 allowed Dr. Lyons the time to find the right niche for her to practice the type of dental service she has envisioned since she was a child. LYONS DENTISTRY was established on November 30, 2009. Currently, Dr. Lyons is a member of the National Dental Honor Society, the American Dental Association, the New Yo rk State Dental Association, and The Fifth District Dental Society. She will be completing her training with the American Academy of Facial Cosmetics on facial injectables (neurotoxins and facial fillers) in the next 2 years.

 Somehow during all of this, she was able to find and marry a wonderful man, Kevin Seymour of Fulton, NY, who has a daughter, Kacey. Kevin and Denise actually met in 1996 and had a long term, long-distance relationship while she completed her dental training and finished her service with the USAF. They were married on Halloween of 2008 in Arizona (you should ask them about their wedding day if you want a different take on how to complete the nuptials!). They were blessed with their first child together on August 9, 2011. You will see pictures of Devin all over the office as he grows very quickly. Denise has proven to be an incredibly compassionate and giving woman when it comes to her family, staff, and patients; many of whom have become lifelong friends. She holds her responsibility as a dentist to the highest standard and never stops broadening her knowledge and skills so that she may provide the best care possible to her community. 

Meet the Team

KATE, RDH

 Kate has been with us for 4 years and is our lead Full-Time Registered Dental Hygienist. She graduated with her dental hygiene degree from SUNY Canton  in 2011  and has been practicing ever since.  She is a gentle and caring individual with 2 young sons who keep her on her toes. She has always ensured that her standard of care is continuously at its highest point and that our patients are always comfortable from the beginning of their appointment through to the end. She works closely alongside the doctor to determine each patients treatment needs and formulate the best course of action to best accommodate each patients individual hygiene needs. With Kate's kind nature, patients can expect to have a calming and pleasant interaction from the start of the appointment to finish. We are glad she has chosen to be part of or dental team!

Dental Crowns — Dental Assistant Melissa In Central Square, NY
 MELISSA 
Melissa is one of our lead Dental Assistants and recently celebrated her 13th year on the team. She is fun-loving and energetic and can often be heard singing or dancing to the music playing in the office while she works or cheerfully greeting patients at the door. Melissa is a graduate of Paul V. Moore High school right here in Central Square and is familiar with a lot of our patients either as past teachers or classmates. She is extremely knowledgeable about the different procedures that Dr. Lyons recommends, making it easy for her to explain what's going to happen at each visit and put your mind at ease. Along with directly assisting the doctor, Melissa's top priority is making sure you are as comfortable as possible during your appointment at our office . With her kind spirit and caring nature, she is a wonderful mother to her two young sons, Axel and Abel, her four "fur kids" (2 dogs and 2 cats), and a great companion to anyone in need. We are thankful to have Melissa on our team!

Alyssa

Insurance, Treatment & Scheduling Coordinator


Aly has been part of our team a since May 2012.  Currently Aly is our Treatment, Insurance and Finance Coordinator.  She also tends to already know a lot of our patients, from living here locally, although she moved away from the area for 2 years to explore the state of Virginia and to further her skills in dentistry.  Aly has been praised with her excellent chair side manner towards our patients and dental knowledge in all aspects of dentistry.  Apart from working in the dental office,  she enjoys riding horses, and spending her time outdoors with all of her animals . Aly does not have any children but does have "furkids",  Pepper & Hank (beagles), Daisy & Artax, (Dalmatians), Louis (horse) & Lilly (donkey) that are her life. Aside from her own animals she also is the owner of a stable and has 10 horses she cares for on a daily basis. Aly is also a volunteer for Onondaga Counties Animal Response Team, She has a big heart for animals and has been known to rescue ones in need. 


Katelynn

Certified Dental Assistant

Katelynn is our newest team member. Though she is new to us, she is not new to dentistry. She was born in Texas on the army base of Killeen, and has lived in many states but the state she called home for 11 years was Burley Idaho. Her family and herself were then transferred to the beautiful state of New York. Katelynn graduated from Liverpool high school and then attended dental assistant school shortly after at OCM BOCES and graduated in May of 2022. Katelynn's career was put on hold for a little while due to a car accident that left her flat lined for 3 minutes, two broken legs and many life threatening injuries. She was unable to walk for 4 months, with determination, that didn’t stop her. In her own words, " I fought long and hard to gain my abilities back. I thank god everyday I was given a second chance at life. I regained my love for dentistry again through working with Dr.Lyons." Katelynn was introduced to us as Dr.Lyons crossed paths with her mother and her mother told Dr.Lyons about her journey and passion for this field. Katelynn also informed us she wouldn’t be where she is today without her loving family and Dr.Lyons. Currently, Katelynn has 3 adorable puppies named Ginger, Nova, and Sabel. She has a compassionate energetic and is a  bundle of joy. She is always open to new and exciting adventures! In her free time she enjoys cooking and drawing. We are happy to welcome Katelynn to our team!
